(CNA, reporter Lin Chia-lien, Kaohsiung, July 1) In response to World Hepatitis Day on July 28, the Kaohsiung City Health Bureau today launched the "Hepatitis Prevention Month" campaign, encouraging citizens to undergo free screenings for early detection of liver health. From now until the end of August, those who complete the screening and register have a chance to win NT$2,000 in gift vouchers.
The Health Bureau stated in a press release today that liver cancer has long been among the top 10 causes of cancer deaths in Taiwan. Chronic hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and fatty liver are significant risk factors leading to liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. As liver disease often shows no obvious symptoms in its early stages, it is difficult to detect. Therefore, regular screening is crucial for early detection and early treatment.
The Health Bureau announced that eligible individuals who complete hepatitis B and C screenings or adult preventive health check-ups and register will have a chance to win gift vouchers worth up to NT$2,000. Additionally, participants in the community's free health check-up sessions in July can receive limited-edition gifts and additional lottery qualifications.
According to the planning by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, individuals aged 40 to 79 can receive one free hepatitis B and C screening in their lifetime. The Health Bureau urges citizens who have not yet been screened to take advantage of this resource for early examination and to reduce the risk of developing serious illness.
In July, the Health Bureau is collaborating with district health centers and primary healthcare facilities to conduct free health check-ups in community activity centers, offering one-stop services. In addition to hepatitis B and C screenings, six major cancer screenings are integrated, allowing citizens to complete multiple health checks at once.
The Health Bureau pointed out that this event offers a double lottery benefit with a total of 70 winning spots. Besides the NT$2,000 lottery, the second tier of benefits is a limited-time bonus in July. Participants in the community's free health check-up sessions will receive limited-edition exquisite gifts. After registering for hepatitis B and C screenings, an additional 20 winners will be drawn for NT$500 gift vouchers.
The Health Bureau reminds the public that the liver is known as the "silent organ." If a health check reveals carriers of viral hepatitis, abnormal liver function, or the risk of fatty liver, further examinations and regular follow-ups should be conducted according to medical advice. Information on community screening sessions, times, and lottery details can be found on the Health Bureau's official website. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150701
