Profit-taking pressure emerged later, significantly narrowing the gains, and the index closed with a slight increase.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed up 412.64 points, or 0.59%, at 70,474.96.
The TOPIX index closed up 16.74 points, or 0.42%, at 4,011.50. (Editor: Liu Wen-yu) 1150701
