(Central News Agency Reporter Lin Chang-shun Taipei, July 2) Taipei City Councilor Lin Chen-yu of the Taiwan People's Party recently posted on Facebook stating that someone had used a fake account to send photos of genitalia to harass her. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office yesterday directed the Zhongshan Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department to arrest the suspect, identified as Mr. Dai, who was brought in today and ordered by the prosecutor to be released on NT$50,000 bail.
Lin Chen-yu posted on Facebook, "I want to publicly state something that makes me angry and disgusted." For years, someone has used fake accounts to send photos of genitalia to harass her. After she blocked the person, the pervert continuously created new accounts and continued to send them; blocking was completely useless.
Lin Chen-yu stated that this is the worst aspect of online sexual harassment: the perpetrator incurs zero cost, while the victim must endure it endlessly. She chose to make this public. The photos have been mosaicked, but even so, she felt disgusted and nauseous while organizing these images. "I don't know if such people can be caught, but I know: silence will only make them more arrogant."
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the Zhongshan Precinct to track down Mr. Dai, who was found to be involved. Yesterday, police searched Mr. Dai's residence and other locations, and arrested him. This afternoon, police transferred him to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on charges including stalking and intimidation. After interrogation, the prosecutor ordered Mr. Dai to be released on NT$50,000 bail. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150702
