Taipei, Jul. 2 (CNA) Taiwan's stock market has seen increased volatility recently. The Taiwan Stock Exchange announced today that three brokerages – Yuanta Securities Zhongli Branch, Pocket Securities, and KGI Securities Huwei Branch – reported default trades involving AU Optronics (AUO), totaling NT$73,251,300.
According to Taiwan's "T+2" settlement system, the exchange announced the default trades today, which occurred during Tuesday's trading. On that day, the stock market opened higher and continued to rise, with the TAIEX closing up 1126.01 points. AUO's closing price rose NT$2.1, or 6.85%, to NT$32.7, reaching a new high in over five years.
Today's large default trade by AUO is the second such case for a listed company this week and the seventh this year. Yageo Corporation, a leading passive component manufacturer, also had a large default trade this Tuesday. Prior to this, Macronix International, Greatek Electronics, Shin-Etsu Chemical, Unimicron Technology, and Walsin Technology had all experienced large default trades this year.
