(CNA New Delhi, July 2nd, Comprehensive Foreign News) Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, and the two sides agreed to further deepen their strategic cooperative relationship towards goals such as realizing a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" and to promote an investment plan worth approximately 2 trillion yen in India.

According to reports from NHK and The Yomiuri Shimbun, the two sides also announced approximately 120 cooperation documents between Japanese and Indian companies, and announced the promotion of new investment and industrial development plans worth approximately 2 trillion yen (approximately 400 billion New Taiwan dollars) in India.

This is Takaichi's first visit to India since taking office as Prime Minister. In their talks, regarding Takaichi's previously announced "evolved" vision of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" and Modi's "Global South and Indo-Pacific Cooperation Vision" proposed last year, the two countries believe the two visions "mutually align in their goals" and agreed to deepen their strategic cooperative relationship to achieve common objectives.

Furthermore, both sides also recognized that expanding maritime security cooperation is crucial for regional peace and stability. During the meeting, it was confirmed that the two countries will advance defense equipment cooperation based on cooperation in warship maintenance, and an agreement was reached to hold a consultation meeting between their foreign and defense ministers (known as "2+2 talks") within this year.

In addition to issuing a joint statement, the two sides also signed documents in the fields of economic security and artificial intelligence (AI).

In terms of economic security, in response to the energy supply risks brought about by the situation in the Middle East, Japan and India will establish a bilateral dialogue platform to strengthen India's oil reserve system as part of ensuring stable energy supply. At the same time, Japan also expressed its support for India's accession to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to the statement, to strengthen cooperation between industry, government, and academia in AI model development, the two countries will establish a "Strategic R&D Partnership in the Field of AI" to accelerate talent exchange between universities and companies, and confirmed that they will invite 500 highly specialized Indian professionals to Japan by 2030 to promote joint research.

The statement also mentioned the most advanced AI technology, "Frontier AI." While Frontier AI possesses powerful cyber capabilities, it also carries the risk of malicious misuse. Therefore, both sides reached a consensus to strengthen cooperation related to ensuring cybersecurity through the use of AI in areas such as critical infrastructure.

NHK analyzed that the Modi government, driven by continuous economic growth, aims to become a developed country by 2047, the 100th anniversary of India's independence. In this meeting, India hopes to attract further investment and technological cooperation from Japan in cutting-edge technology fields such as AI and semiconductors, where competition between the US and China is fierce.
