(CNA) Reporter Chang Hsiung-feng, Taipei, July 2nd) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) stated that Tropical Storm Bavi has a chance to strengthen into a super typhoon within the next 24 to 36 hours, with the latter half of next week being crucial to determine if it approaches Taiwan. Before the 8th, Taiwan will be affected by the Pacific high pressure, leading to hot and sunny weather across the island. Tomorrow, 10 counties and cities, including greater Taipei, are warned of temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius.

CWA forecaster Lai Hsin-kuo told CNA reporters that Tropical Storm Bavi was located about 1,540 kilometers east of Guam at 2 PM today (approximately 4,190 kilometers east of Eluanbi). It is currently moving northwest by west, then west, towards the Ryukyu Islands.

Lai Hsin-kuo stated that Bavi is currently far from Taiwan and poses no immediate threat. However, it is developing rapidly and could become a super typhoon within the next 24 to 36 hours. Whether it will approach Taiwan further will be critical in the middle to late part of next week. Nevertheless, forecasts from various countries still show significant divergence, requiring continuous observation.

Regarding another tropical depression in the South China Sea, Lai Hsin-kuo pointed out that its development is not ideal. Although it has a chance to strengthen into the 10th typhoon of the year, Maysak, between today and tomorrow, it is expected to approach land shortly after formation and weaken quickly, posing no impact on Taiwan.

Lai Hsin-kuo mentioned that before the 8th, Taiwan will be influenced by the Pacific high pressure, resulting in generally clear and stable weather with high temperatures across the island. Localized brief thunderstorms are expected in mountainous areas in the afternoon. From the 6th to the 8th, moisture levels will slightly increase, expanding the afternoon rain to areas north of central Taiwan and other mountainous regions.

The CWA issued a high-temperature advisory today, warning of hot and sunny weather across the island. Tomorrow, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Yilan County, and Hualien County will be under an orange alert, with a chance of continuous temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi County will be under a yellow alert, with caution advised for temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.

Lai Hsin-kuo said that after the 9th, the weather might be affected by the outer bands of the typhoon. Northern Taiwan and Yilan will experience localized brief showers or thunderstorms. However, the exact intensity and range of rainfall will depend on the typhoon's distance from Taiwan.

Lai Hsin-kuo reminded that from the 8th onwards, long waves are likely to occur along the coasts of Keelung's North Coast, the eastern part of Taiwan (including Green Island and Orchid Island), and the Hengchun Peninsula. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150702
