TOKYO (CNA) - Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka (大坂直美) defeated Australian player Daria Kasatkina in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, in the third round of Wimbledon today, marking her first-ever advancement to the Round of 16 at the tournament.
According to AFP, Osaka, 28, is the 14th seed at this year's Wimbledon. While her eye-catching tournament attire has caused a stir, she has only reached the Round of 16 in two Grand Slams since winning the Australian Open in 2021. Her previous best performance in five Wimbledon appearances was the third round.
However, Osaka stole the spotlight today with her performance on the court. She eliminated Kasatkina (卡薩金娜) in just 65 minutes on Centre Court to advance to the fourth round.
Osaka will face either world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka (莎芭蓮卡) or former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko (奧斯塔朋科) in the next round. (Compiled by Chen Cheng-jen) 1150703
