(CNA Taipei, July 3) The "2026 Taipei Pet Products Expo," running from today until the 6th at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, features 2,100 booths, making it the largest ever. Pet food is abundant, with one domestic cat food brand even telling a heartwarming story of protecting the leopard cat.
The "Taipei Pet Products Expo" is jointly organized by the Taiwan Pet Food and Supplies Industry Association and Chan Chao International Co., Ltd. The association stated that this year's exhibition has reached new heights, bringing together 480 manufacturers and 2,100 booths, showcasing over 2,200 domestic and international pet brands. In addition to Taiwanese businesses, there are international brands from Thailand, Japan, China, South Korea, the United States, Hong Kong, Australia, and Malaysia, displaying the latest professional pet equipment and consumer lifestyle trends.
According to a survey released by the Ministry of Agriculture earlier this year, the number of pet dogs and cats in Taiwan has exceeded 3.2 million. The Ministry of Agriculture recently issued a press release citing a survey by the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, which estimates the domestic pet market size to be over NT$80 billion, with pet food accounting for approximately 53%, making it the largest consumption item.
Observing the booths at the "Taipei Pet Products Expo," cat and dog food indeed dominates, ranging from general kibble to snacks, ready-to-eat meals, freeze-dried food, probiotics, and pet ice cream, all offered with samples. Many furry companions, led by their owners, enjoyed sampling from booth to booth.
One booth selling the domestic cat food brand "Tan Tan" (貪貪) also tells a heartwarming story of protecting the leopard cat.
The vendor explained that their team is composed of individuals who value the ecological environment and have created Taiwan's first eco-conservation cat food brand. This initiative primarily addresses the significant decrease in Taiwan's silk demand, which has deeply affected many mulberry farmers and threatened the habitats of leopard cats.
Four years ago, through the facilitation of the Council of Agriculture, the predecessor of the Ministry of Agriculture, they collaborated with Taiwan Sericulture Biotechnology Company to develop delicious and nutritious cat food cans using silkworm pupae, which are rich in protein. This simultaneously helps farmers protect the mulberry fields they rely on for their livelihood and preserves the clean habitats needed by leopard cats.
Two years ago, "Tan Tan" partnered with banana farmers who protect leopard cat ecosystems, using bananas as the starch source in their cat food. This is because the dietary fiber in bananas is more beneficial for a cat's digestive tract. This year, they launched cooling mats, donating NT$10 to the Taiwan Leopard Cat Conservation Association for every mat sold.
Bei Li Pet's newly developed "Pet Ice Cream" is sold in powder form, allowing owners to easily make it at home by mixing it with water and refrigerating it for 5 to 6 hours. They also offered pre-made ice cream for pets to sample on-site, and many owners passing by with their furry friends didn't miss the chance for their pets to try it.
One vendor introduced pet electric scooters. The vendor stated that these are designed on qualified micro electric two-wheeled vehicles with a railing for dogs to sit or stand on, and a fixed leash, making them legal to ride. Compared to carrying dogs on motorcycles, these prevent dogs from suddenly jumping off, ensuring greater safety for both people and pets. Launched earlier this year, 180 units have already been sold.
