(CNA) - New Taipei City, July 4 - Police in Luzhou, New Taipei City, apprehended a 40-year-old man surnamed Zhuang early this morning after he crashed his car into a roadside guardrail. A rapid drug test administered by the police revealed the driver tested positive for three types of drugs. In a separate incident on the morning of July 3, Banqiao police arrested a man surnamed Cai for suspected drug-driving and possession of etonitazene vape cartridges.

Police stated that both cases have been transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and endangering public safety.

According to police, at around 1 a.m. today, the Luzhou Precinct received a report of a traffic accident on Section 1, Yong'an North Road, Luzhou District. Officers arrived at the scene to find that a car driven by a man surnamed Zhuang had crashed into a roadside guardrail. The driver sustained multiple abrasions and contusions, appeared disoriented, and spoke unclearly, leading officers to suspect drug-driving.

A rapid drug test conducted on Zhuang showed positive reactions for the Schedule I drug etonitazene, the Schedule II drug methamphetamine, and the Schedule III drug cathinone. The officers escorted him to the San Chong Branch of the New Taipei Municipal Union Hospital for treatment. Following police questioning, he was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and endangering public safety.

Furthermore, the Banqiao Precinct reported that at approximately 1:40 a.m. on July 3, they received a notification about a driver suspected of drug use on Gongguan Street, Banqiao District. Upon arrival, officers found a Mercedes-Benz sedan parked by the roadside with its engine running. A man surnamed Cai exited the driver's seat and submitted to questioning.

Police noted that during the questioning, Cai exhibited abnormal body tremors and his gaze was unfocused. His driver's license had also been revoked. After being advised, he voluntarily handed over one etonitazene vape cartridge and an electronic cigarette device. A subsequent test confirmed a positive reaction for the Schedule I drug etonitazene. Police seized the evidence at the scene. Following police questioning, he was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and endangering public safety.
