(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Qi, Hualien County, July 4) The Forestry and Conservation Agency's Hualien Branch monitored that the Wanli Stream landslide lake has accumulated more than 50% of its capacity. The deep mountain task force conducted an on-site investigation, successfully completing geological status measurements and GPX track recording tasks ahead of schedule. Today, the Aviation Police Service airlifted the 9 members down the mountain.

The Hualien Branch stated that the task force spent 4 days深入 the lake area, completing 7 important investigation tasks, including geological surveys; collecting water samples from the lake, limestone cliff tributaries, and upstream streams; close-up aerial photography of the spillway, dam body, and upstream terrain, as well as on-site reconnaissance; testing communication signal coverage along the route; reconnaissance of helicopter hoisting points; setting up ropes and cloth markers along the route, and recording GPX tracks.

Hualien Branch Chief Huang Qunce said that the investigation data brought back will be interpreted by experts and scholars, which will help to more accurately calculate the stability of the landslide lake. After the on-site reconnaissance, it will be of great help in planning and evaluating future monitoring routes approaching the landslide lake.

This dispatched team consisted of 3 people from the Hualien Branch, 3 people from the Eastern Search and Rescue Committee (East Search), and 3 high-altitude assistants, totaling 9 people. On the 1st, they were airlifted by helicopter to the valley south of Da'an Mountain West Peak, and then trekked 3 kilometers into the landslide lake. The original plan was for a 5-day trip.

The Hualien Branch stated that after the team members arrived on the mountain, they confirmed another suitable high point for hoisting, which could save trekking time. Considering the approaching typhoon and the steep mountain terrain, this morning around 8 a.m., the Aviation Police Service dispatched 3 helicopter sorties to airlift the 9 people down the mountain in sequence ahead of schedule.

According to aerial monitoring by the Hualien Branch, the water level of the Wanli Stream landslide lake continues to rise steadily, with no obvious seepage or abnormal conditions found in the dam body. As of 8 a.m. today, the accumulated water volume was 2,781,900 cubic meters, accounting for 54.54% of the total reservoir capacity of 5,100,000 cubic meters. (Editor: Chen Renhua) 1150704
