(CNA Taipei, July 4) American professional baseball player Stuart Fairchild, who has Taiwanese heritage, completed the waiver process today. Fairchild chose to reject an assignment to the minor leagues by the Guardians, becoming a free agent for the second time in his career.

Fairchild was designated for assignment (DFA) by the Cleveland Guardians on June 27th, Taiwan time. Seven days have passed since then without another team claiming him. According to transactions reported on the MLB official website, the Guardians intended to assign him to their Triple-A affiliate. However, due to having over three years of Major League service time, Fairchild had the option to become a free agent.

In fact, Fairchild was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays last November and subsequently chose to become a free agent. This occurred shortly before his wedding to his wife, Hanna Fairchild. Hanna had previously stated in an interview with CNA that she wasn't worried at all at the time and was even a bit excited, saying, "It's usually not easy for players to choose where they want to go."

Fairchild joined the Guardians on a minor league contract before the season. During spring training, he joined the Taiwanese team to compete in the World Baseball Classic. His strong performance on the field made him a focus of attention for Taiwanese fans. After returning to professional baseball in the U.S., he was called up to the Major League on May 30th. In a total of 14 appearances and 19 at-bats, he recorded 3 hits, along with 7 walks and 14 strikeouts. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150704
