(CNA, Taipei, July 4) The China Coast Guard (CCG) announced today that it will continue its "law enforcement patrols" in the waters east of Taiwan. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has no sovereignty or any rights in the waters east of Taiwan and strongly condemns the CCG vessels' actions for violating international law and disrupting the status quo and regional stability.
Jiang Lue, spokesperson for the CCG, announced this morning that the Xiushan ship formation has replaced the Daishan ship formation and will continue law enforcement patrols in the waters east of Taiwan. Jiang Lue claimed, "The China Coast Guard will continue to strengthen law enforcement patrols in waters under China's jurisdiction and resolutely safeguard national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests."
The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) responded this afternoon via press release, stating that the CCP has no sovereignty or related rights in the waters east of Taiwan, nor does it have jurisdiction in these waters. CCP public service vessels also have no law enforcement authority here. The CCP's so-called "law enforcement patrols" are essentially an act of expanding power in violation of international law and disrupting regional stability.
The MAC emphasized that repeated illegal acts remain illegal and will not be recognized by the international community.
The MAC mentioned that in response to the CCP's actions that escalate regional danger, the Coast Guard Administration and relevant ministries will take practical actions to defend national sovereignty and ensure maritime security. The government will continue to cooperate with global democratic allies to safeguard freedom of navigation and shipping lane safety in these waters, and resolutely counter any malicious acts that use force or coercion to change the international order.
