(CNA) Taipei, July 4 -- Weather expert Wu Der-rong stated that today will be as hot as midsummer, with temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius, urging people to take precautions against sunburn and heatstroke. Typhoon Bavi intensified from a tropical storm to a super typhoon in just 36 hours, and its storm radius will continue to expand to 350 kilometers. It is estimated to approach on the 9th, with the greatest impact expected on the 10th and 11th.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor at National Central University's Department of Atmospheric Sciences, said in the "Heavenly Secrets Revealed Classroom" column of the Weather Promotion Foundation that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model simulation shows that the Pacific high-pressure system will affect the region from today to the 8th, with sunny to partly cloudy skies and a chance of localized brief showers in mountainous areas in the afternoon.

He added that from today onwards, it will be as hot as midsummer, with the highest temperature potentially reaching around 38 degrees Celsius, and people should pay attention to sun protection and heatstroke prevention.

Regarding Typhoon Bavi, Wu Der-rong said that the latest model simulation shows that Bavi will generally approach on the 9th, have the greatest impact on the 10th and 11th, and move away on the 12th and 13th. However, the degree of threat to each region will depend on the typhoon's movement.

Wu Der-rong stated that Bavi intensified "explosively," taking only 36 hours to strengthen from a tropical storm to a super typhoon. The latest Central Weather Administration "Track Probability Prediction Map" also shows that Bavi's storm radius will continue to expand to 350 kilometers, and its intensity will continue to increase. It is a typical "large and strong typhoon" in an "El Niño year" and is challenging the "wind king" record (60 m/s) set by Sinlaku in April this year.

Wu Der-rong pointed out that Bavi will move northwest-west in the future. It is predicted to be located southeast of the Ryukyu Islands at 2 AM on the 9th. The latest simulations from various international models show that after 5 days, the super typhoon Bavi will continue to move northwest-west, gradually turning northwest, and approach the waters east of Taiwan. The uncertainty of the track will gradually increase, and different tracks will pose different threats. Do not jump to conclusions; continue to observe model adjustments and prepare for the typhoon in advance.

In addition, Wu Der-rong said that the Weather Administration's "Track Probability Prediction Map" shows that Tropical Storm Maysak, the 10th tropical storm, is leaving Hainan Island and heading towards the Guangxi region, posing no threat to Taiwan. (Editor: Chen Ren-hua) 1150704
