(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 4) Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang said today that Taiwan's chips were not stolen from the United States, but are the result of generations of accumulation, with engineers working themselves to death daily and strong support from the people and the government. Even though the United States is an ally, the government still has an obligation to protect Taiwan's "guardian mountain" (a term referring to the semiconductor industry).

U.S. President Donald Trump recently reiterated his claim that Taiwan has taken 100% of the chip industry, but under tariff measures, chip manufacturers are relocating back to the United States, with an estimated 40% to 60% of chip manufacturing expected to be based in the U.S. before the end of his term.

Huang Kuo-chang, speaking to reporters before attending an artificial intelligence (AI) mobile phone application course in New Taipei City this morning, stated that while the U.S. is a democratic ally, the government must stand firm and protect Taiwan's critical chip industry.

He said that Trump may have a deep misunderstanding of Taiwan's chips, and it is the government's responsibility and obligation to protect Taiwan's "guardian mountain" so that Taiwan's leading position in chip technology and industry is not easily shaken by the U.S. This is the basic stance the government should take.
