(CNA reporter Chen Yung-chi, Taipei, July 4) In the World Table Tennis (WTT) US Grand Smash, Taiwanese men's doubles pair Lin Yun-ju and Feng Yi-hsin lost 0-3 to Chinese pair Wen Ruibo and Yuan Licen in the semifinals today, failing to advance to the men's doubles final.
Lin Yun-ju, known as the "Silent Assassin," teamed up with Feng Yi-hsin for the first time in nearly two years. The pair delivered a brilliant performance, not only defeating the third-seeded Hong Kong duo Wong Chun Ting and Chan Ho Ka, but also winning their quarterfinal match. Unfortunately, they were unable to effectively contain the Chinese pair Wen Ruibo and Yuan Licen in the semifinals today, ultimately losing 0-3 and missing out on a spot in the final.
In the first game, both sides engaged in a back-and-forth battle. After Lin Yun-ju and Feng Yi-hsin were tied 5-5 with their opponents, they lost four consecutive points. Fortunately, the Taiwanese pair regained their composure, narrowing the gap and even saving two game points to force a "Deuce" situation. However, due to consecutive return errors by Lin Yun-ju and Feng Yi-hsin, they conceded the first game 10-12.
In the second game, Lin Yun-ju and Feng Yi-hsin failed to hold onto their lead and were caught by their opponents seizing consecutive scoring opportunities. Despite the Taiwanese pair's efforts to catch up and nearly replicating the "script" of the first game, they still lost 8-11. Entering the crucial third game, Lin Yun-ju and Feng Yi-hsin were still unable to find a "solution" in time, and were eventually defeated by a winning cross-court shot from their opponents, ultimately losing 7-11 and failing to advance to the men's doubles final.
