(Central News Agency, reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, July 6) Following food safety disputes arising from excessive carcinogen levels in Chung Lien oil products, the Changhua County Health Bureau announced today that cooking oil and blended oil products from Taishan Enterprise Co., Ltd. involved in the case were comprehensively removed from shelves on July 2. The bureau will continue to monitor the situation and strictly ensure food safety.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare received a report on July 1 from Chung Lien Oil Corporation regarding a batch of soybean salad oil raw material, approximately 1,300 metric tons, supplied to companies including Fwusow Industry Co., Ltd., Fwumoq Oil Co., Ltd., and Taishan Enterprise. The raw material was found to have self-detected levels of the carcinogen "benzopyrene" exceeding regulatory limits. Of this amount, 291 metric tons were shipped to Taishan.

The Changhua County Health Bureau stated in a press release that, as per FDA instructions, original oil products such as blended oil made using the affected soybean salad oil, and processed products containing 20% or more of the affected oil, should be preemptively removed from shelves by 12:00 AM on July 6, pending clarification of product safety and hygiene. Other related products, while not requiring preemptive removal, should voluntarily disclose product information to uphold the public's right to know.

The Health Bureau reported that Taishan's implicated salad oil and blended oil products were comprehensively removed from shelves on July 2. As of noon today, 5.584 metric tons of the implicated salad oil and 1.381 metric tons of blended oil products have been recovered, totaling 6.965 metric tons. Including the inventory of 4.024 metric tons, the total amount is 10.989 metric tons.

Additionally, Fwusow and Fwumoq within Changhua County have removed and recalled 150 kilograms. The Health Bureau will continue to supervise the removal and recall operations to ensure that problematic products do not re-enter the market. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150706
