In Response to Typhoon Bavi, Taoyuan City Completes Flood Control Preparations, Sandbags Available from July 7

(Central News Agency, Reporter Wu Ruiqi, Taoyuan, July 6) In response to the potential rainfall impact of Typhoon Bavi, the Taoyuan City Water Resources Bureau announced today that it completed a comprehensive review of disaster prevention measures on the afternoon of July 3. With the goals of "minimal flooding, fastest drainage, and highest safety," district offices will open for sandbag distribution at 10 AM tomorrow.

The Taoyuan City Government Water Resources Bureau issued a press release this evening stating that for areas that experienced flooding multiple times in the first half of 2026, the Maintenance Engineering Office, Environmental Management Office, and district offices have been notified to prioritize silt removal and inspection of drainage systems to enhance drainage efficiency. District offices will open for the public to collect sandbags at 10 AM on July 7. All managed pumping equipment in the city has completed trial operations, and the 43 sluice gates under jurisdiction have completed flood control opening and closing preparations, ensuring timely deployment during the flood season.

The Water Resources Bureau stated that to reserve flood storage capacity, it has completed pre-drainage operations for 8 detention ponds, including Longshan Pond, 14A, Danan, Dashulin, Xipi, Daren, Shixiao Pond, and Jianguo Tonghe, to enhance emergency regulation capabilities. For areas with potential mountain disasters, it continues to monitor the scope of debris flow warnings in Fuxing District.

The Water Resources Bureau urges the public to pay close attention to the latest weather and disaster prevention information. Residents in low-lying areas and near rivers should make typhoon preparations in advance. They can also download the "Water Situation in Taoyuan" App to grasp real-time rainfall, flood warnings, and weather push notifications, thereby enhancing disaster response capabilities.
