(CNA Reporter He Xiu Ling, Taipei, July 6) Benefiting from overseas market demand and the continuous growth of silicone hydrogel products, contact lens manufacturers Wantai and Crystal Clear both achieved their second-highest monthly revenues in June and are optimistic about their performance in the second half of the year.
Wantai announced today that its June revenue was approximately NT$394 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.26%, marking its second-highest monthly revenue. In the first half of this year, revenue reached NT$2.226 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32.32%. Wantai stated that the growth momentum mainly comes from the continuous return of customer orders during the 618 shopping festival in China.
Wantai indicated that to meet order demands, production capacity is being expanded synchronously across both sides of the Taiwan Strait quarter by quarter this year. New capacity will be gradually rolled out in the second half of the year to supply orders from markets in Japan, China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
Wantai also pointed out that looking at the global contact lens market, end-consumer demand continues to grow. This year, silicone hydrogel products will be shipped in large volumes to markets including China, Japan, the United States, and Taiwan. Coupled with contributions from new customers and new products, revenue is expected to show a competitive leap in growth this year.
Crystal Clear's June revenue was NT$723 million, a year-on-year increase of 33.94%, its second-highest monthly revenue. First-half revenue reached NT$4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24.22%, setting a new record for the same period.
Crystal Clear told CNA that the growth in June revenue was mainly due to the continued strong performance of its silicone hydrogel products in the Japanese and European markets, with the Japanese market accounting for a higher proportion of revenue. Looking ahead to the second half of this year, silicone hydrogel products are expected to continue to contribute to business momentum.
Contact lens materials are mainly divided into hydrogel and silicone hydrogel. Hydrogel offers a more comfortable wearing sensation but can lead to dry eyes with prolonged wear. Silicone hydrogel has higher oxygen permeability, is less likely to cause dry eyes, and is suitable for long-term wear. (Editor: Lin Jia Xian) 1150706
