(Central News Agency, reporters Wu Wen-hung and Yeh Su-ping, Kinmen, July 6) The Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) Kinmen County Indigenous Liaison Station and Legislator Wu Li-hua's service office were inaugurated today. Wu Li-hua stated that in the future, for local petitions or rights-related matters, through joint efforts with the Kinmen County Government, "we can certainly do more and better for the local area."
The inauguration ceremony and symposium for the "DPP Kinmen County Indigenous Liaison Station and Legislator Wu Li-hua Service Office" were held today. Attendees included DPP Indigenous Affairs Department Director Gu Mu-ha-jiu, DPP Legislator Wu Li-hua, Kinmen County Deputy Magistrate Chen Lung-an, DPP Kinmen County Councilor Tsai Chi-yung, and DPP Kinmen County Party Chairman You Teng-hung.
In a media interview, Wu Li-hua stated that there are over a thousand indigenous people from both mountainous and plains areas in Kinmen. Most of them came from the main island to Kinmen successively 30 to 40 years ago due to the booming construction industry, contributing to local development together. Having been rooted here for decades, their rights also need to be taken care of.
Wu Li-hua expressed her happiness about the establishment of the liaison station and the joint establishment of a service office with the Kinmen County Party Department and Councilor Tsai Chi-yung. She recalled that former legislators Chen Pei-yu and Wang Cheng-hsu also provided services in Kinmen. She believes that in the future, regardless of ethnic group, for petitions or rights-related matters that require legislative amendments or enactment through the Legislative Yuan, "by everyone working together, and with the Kinmen County Government, we can certainly do more and better for the local area."
Wu Li-hua mentioned that over three years ago, an indigenous person petitioned her, stating that with many indigenous people in Kinmen, a dedicated gathering place was needed. At that time, she personally inspected the site in Kinmen and submitted a plan to the local government. The Council of Indigenous Peoples also provided support. The plan is currently undergoing revisions, and she visited the proposed location this afternoon for an inspection.
Wu Li-hua stated that she will continue to promote cultural health stations and indigenous family centers, encouraging indigenous elders aged 55 and above to participate in health promotion and cultural heritage activities to improve the quality of elder care. She will also focus on the educational needs of indigenous youth in Kinmen, support the staffing of the Indigenous Student Resource Center, and actively seek tuition fee subsidies, work-study opportunities, and various scholarship resources to alleviate the financial burden of youth pursuing education. In the future, the Kinmen service office will provide legal consultation, petition services, and administrative assistance, serving as an important communication bridge between the central and local governments.
Tsai Chi-yung stated that if indigenous people in the area have future needs for hardware or software facilities, or related local services, they can be relayed through the service office, with both central and local governments jointly attending to their rights.
In a press release from the Democratic Progressive Party's Indigenous Affairs Department, Gu Mu-ha-jiu pointed out that the establishment of the Kinmen County Indigenous Liaison Station is an important achievement in deepening the party's national organization and a significant milestone in expanding services to the outlying islands. Kinmen County Party Chairman You Teng-hung stated that they will work closely with the central party's Indigenous Affairs Department, Legislator Wu Li-hua's service team, and local community groups to continuously listen to local voices, allowing indigenous people to feel the DPP's emphasis and care for indigenous peoples.
