(Central News Agency Washington, July 6, Comprehensive Foreign News) As a heatwave rages across the US Midwest and Atlantic coast, New Jersey officials recently stated that the state has received reports of at least 19 heat-related deaths.

According to Agence France-Presse, New Jersey Health Commissioner Raynard Washington stated at a press conference on the 4th: "The number of suspected heat-related deaths across the state has risen to 19. Regrettably, many of the deceased were found in residences without air conditioning, and some were found on the streets or even in their cars."

The National Weather Service stated that during the US July 4th holiday period, approximately 160 million Americans were within the scope of "severe" or "extreme" heat warnings.

Authorities are urging the public to stay indoors, check on their neighbors, and drink more water than usual. Those without air conditioning at home are advised to go to places with air conditioning.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill warned residents: "This weather is extreme and dangerous... and it is the hottest period we have experienced in over 14 years."

The United States has recently experienced a "heat dome" phenomenon, primarily caused by a high-pressure system trapping warm air like a lid on a pot. (Intern Editor: Luo Yien / Editor: Hong Qi-yuan) 1150706
