Police tracked the suspect, identified by the surname Liao, and determined that the suspect might attempt to flee the country by plane after the incident. A warrant was issued by the prosecutor, and the suspect was intercepted and arrested at Taichung International Airport around 4 p.m.
Yaita Akio was invited to be a lecturer at the "NEXT CITY - Chunyu Creative Action Camp - Advancing New Taichung" camp, organized by the Chunyu Cultural and Educational Foundation at the Yongfeng Hotel in Taichung City. As he was leaving after his speech at noon, he was followed and punched by an unknown assailant, who then fled. Yaita Akio reported the incident to the police after being accompanied by staff to seek medical attention.
According to the Sixth Precinct of the Taichung City Police Bureau, a special task force was immediately formed upon receiving the report. They actively reviewed surveillance footage from the scene and surrounding areas, identified the suspect's characteristics, and pursued the arrest with all efforts. They also reported to the prosecutor of the Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office for direction and investigation, comprehensively tracking the suspect's escape route to ensure swift apprehension.
Police stated that the suspect has been apprehended and brought in for investigation. The motive and cause of the incident will be further investigated and clarified before being transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office in accordance with the law, with a request for pre-trial detention.
