(Central News Agency, reporter Hao Xueqing, Taichung, July 6) Yaita Akio, CEO of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Think Tank, was invited to be a lecturer at a camp organized by the Chunyu Cultural and Educational Foundation in Taichung City. As he was leaving the hotel at noon today, he was followed and punched in the face by an unknown assailant. After being sent to the hospital by staff, he immediately reported the incident to the police.

The organizer, the Chunyu Cultural and Educational Foundation, explained that the "NEXT CITY - Chunyu Innovation Action Camp - Advancing New Taichung" camp was held at the E-Da Royal Hotel in Taichung City. Yaita Akio was invited to be a camp lecturer. As he was leaving the hotel after his lecture at noon, he was followed by an unknown man who punched him in the face. The man then fled.

The Chunyu Cultural and Educational Foundation stated that the on-site staff accompanied Yaita Akio to Lin Shin Hospital for treatment immediately and then accompanied him to report the incident to the police. According to hotel staff, the assailant had been seen in the vicinity since yesterday and his behavior was highly suspicious.

Shih Chih-chang, chairman of the Chunyu Cultural and Educational Foundation and a Democratic Progressive Party councilor for Taichung City, expressed strong anger and issued a stern condemnation. He emphasized that regardless of the assailant's motive, attempting to silence someone with fists is the most serious provocation to democracy and freedom. The foundation will fully cooperate with the police investigation and provide relevant surveillance footage from the hotel and surrounding areas.

Shih Chih-chang urged the police to do their utmost to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible, to investigate whether there were any instigators behind the scenes and the true motive, and to deal with the case strictly according to the law without leniency, in order to safeguard social order and freedom of speech.
