(CNA) - U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth is visiting Taiwan again, leading a delegation that will meet with President Lai Ching-te and senior government officials on July 7. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed gratitude for Duckworth's visit at this important juncture, which fully demonstrates her firm support for Taiwan.

MOFA issued a press release in the evening stating that Duckworth (also translated as Tammy Duckworth) will be visiting Taiwan from July 6 to 8. During her visit, she will meet with President Lai and senior government officials. The two sides will exchange views on important issues such as Taiwan-U.S. relations, regional security, economic and trade cooperation, technology cooperation, and the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region. Lin Chia-lung expressed his sincere welcome to Senator Duckworth's visit.

MOFA explained that Duckworth is a member of the U.S. Senate Taiwan Caucus and has long supported deepening the Taiwan-U.S. partnership. In the past, she has not only repeatedly supported pro-Taiwan resolutions and co-signed letters in support of Taiwan, but also flew to Taiwan on a U.S. military aircraft during Taiwan's severe COVID-19 pandemic when vaccines were urgently needed, announcing that the U.S. government would donate vaccines to Taiwan.

MOFA mentioned that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the 30th anniversary of Taiwan's direct presidential elections. Duckworth, along with bipartisan senators, jointly proposed a resolution affirming Taiwan's democratic achievements and reaffirming the U.S. security commitment to Taiwan based on the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances. Additionally, she and Senator Dan Sullivan jointly proposed the "Stand With Taiwan Act," which aims to deter Chinese aggression against Taiwan with severe sanctions. Lin Chia-lung expressed gratitude for Duckworth's visit at this important moment, which fully demonstrates her firm support for Taiwan.

MOFA stated that Michael Frerichs, Treasurer of Illinois, and State Senator Paul Faraci will also participate in parts of this delegation's itinerary, and they look forward to jointly deepening the connection between Taiwan and local levels in the United States.

MOFA pointed out that in the face of challenges such as the expansion of authoritarianism, gray zone coercion, and economic coercion, MOFA will continue to work closely with the U.S. Congress, the executive branch, and friends from all sectors on the existing solid foundation to steadily advance the comprehensive partnership between Taiwan and the United States in security, economy, trade, and technology, and to jointly create regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
