Kaohsiung Old City Council Urban Renewal Project Breaks Ground, Lai Ruey-long Pledges Full Support for Construction

(Central News Agency, Kaohsiung, July 6) DPP Kaohsiung mayoral candidate and Legislator Lai Ruey-long stated today at the groundbreaking ceremony for the "Kaohsiung City Old City Council Public Urban Renewal Project" that he will continue the steady pace of attracting investment and fully promote major construction projects to drive Kaohsiung's economic development forward.

The "Kaohsiung City Old City Council Public Urban Renewal Project" held its groundbreaking ceremony today. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, Taiwan Life Insurance Chairman Hsu Shu-po, and Lai Ruey-long were among those present to witness the official entry into a new phase of revitalizing the old city council site.

Lai Ruey-long said that the old city council building on Zhongzheng Road, over the 44 years since its inauguration and relocation, has played an important role in voicing the concerns of the people and has witnessed the city's gradual progress towards prosperity. In the future, it will be transformed into a new landmark for Kaohsiung's financial street.

He mentioned that he himself had been questioned in this building when he served in the city government. This landmark urban renewal project perfectly embodies the spirit of public-private partnership. He also thanked Taiwan Life Insurance for its optimism about Kaohsiung, investing over NT$7 billion, preserving and restoring parts of the building, and constructing a new generation financial building with sustainability certification.

Lai Ruey-long stated that in recent years, the city government team has rapidly promoted the relocation of semiconductor and AI industries to the Asia Bay Area, and has implemented the "Asia Asset Management Center Kaohsiung Special Zone," which is also a major goal he continues to care about and promote. After the new building is completed, it will be combined with the Taiwan Carbon Exchange, making Kaohsiung a hub for green finance and cybersecurity innovation.

Lai Ruey-long emphasized that he will continue the city government's steady pace of attracting investment and fully promote various major construction projects. The transformation of the old city council will also drive industrial layout in southern Kaohsiung, allowing Kaohsiung's economic development to continue to advance by leaps and bounds.
