TOKYO (CNA) - Japan's stock market, the Nikkei 225 index, closed lower today due to a sell-off in technology stocks following a sharp decline in Samsung Electronics' share price after its earnings report. Semiconductor-related stocks, which had seen the strongest gains this year, were particularly hard hit.

The Nikkei 225, Japan's benchmark stock index, fell 1480.73 points, or 2.12%, to close at 68256.96.

The TOPIX index dropped 39.70 points, or 0.97%, to close at 4062.26. (Editor: Chen Yuting) 1150707
