(Central News Agency, reporter Zhao Jingyu, Taipei, July 7) Continuing the moving premiere of the 2025 Chishang Harvest Art Festival, U-Theatre once again joins hands with Golden Melody Award winner Sangpuy to launch the "I Am Back" tour across 5 cities in Taiwan, delving into mythology through drumbeats and songs, embarking on a journey of ritual and life.
According to news released by U-Theatre today, "I Am Back" is jointly created by U-Theatre and Sangpuy, with Huang Huai-chin, son of U-Theatre founder Liu Ruo-yu, serving as director for the first time. It weaves body and ritual into a contemporary Taiwanese myth. U-Theatre's profound physical training and drumming artistry are combined with Sangpuy's songs from the land, mountains, and ancestral spirits to create a theatrical performance.
Liu Ruo-yu, founder of U-Theatre, stated, "Every nation has its own mythology, because mythology is never a distant legend, but a shared life memory of humanity." Liu Ruo-yu believes that "I Am Back" is not a retelling of an ancient myth, but rather an attempt to reawaken, through theater, the gradually forgotten connection between humans and nature, humans and ancestral spirits, and humans and themselves.
The performance "I Am Back" by U-Theatre and Golden Melody Award winner Sangpuy will be held from September 5th to 6th at the Tainan Cultural Center, September 12th to 13th at the Pingtung Performing Arts Center, September 19th at the Hengchun Cultural Center Theater, October 3rd to 4th at the Taichung Huludun Cultural Center, and October 10th to 11th at the Taoyuan Arts Center.
