(Central News Agency Reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, July 7) A stabbing incident recently occurred in Taipei's Daan District. An 80-year-old man surnamed Lou, who lives alone, saw his 70-year-old landlord surnamed Chen passing by his residence. Believing there was a debt dispute, Lou intercepted Chen with a kitchen knife to argue. During the struggle, Chen accidentally cut his left hand. Upon receiving the report, the police referred Lou to the court according to the Social Order Maintenance Act.

At approximately 9 a.m. on the morning of July 5, the Wolong Street Police Station of the Daan Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department received a report from a citizen stating that a landlord-tenant dispute had occurred within its jurisdiction. Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that landlord Chen had been renting the property to Lou for several years. When Chen passed by Lou's residence at the time of the incident, Lou suddenly intercepted him with a kitchen knife to argue. During the dispute and struggle, Chen attempted to disarm Lou and accidentally cut his left hand. He was bandaged by paramedics from the 119 emergency service who arrived at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

It is understood that Lou believed Chen owed him NT$3,000 which had not been repaid, and therefore waited at his residence for Chen to appear so he could argue. Chen denied any loan and stated that since Lou lived alone, he often proactively helped Lou.

The police subsequently took Lou to the station for investigation. Although Chen was unwilling to pursue the matter, the police still referred Lou to the Taipei District Court's summary division for a penalty in accordance with the Social Order Maintenance Act. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150707
