(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 7) Taiwan Mobile is actively expanding its presence in the satellite sector and announced today its partnership with ASTRI Group and Far East Medical Electronics to integrate multi-orbit satellites and create a one-stop maritime satellite communication service. This initiative aims to enhance backup communication for offshore patrols and command-and-control collaboration, with future applications extending to unmanned vehicle missions.

When offshore patrols, maritime rescue operations, or disaster response encounters situations where ground networks are unavailable, communication is disrupted by adverse weather, or signals are interfered with, satellite communication serves as a crucial backup for maintaining ship-to-shore contact, transmitting location data, and facilitating mission collaboration.

Taiwan Mobile announced today that it is joining forces with ASTRI Group, which has over 30 years of experience in satellite operations and has served more than 3,000 international ocean-going vessels, and Far East Medical Electronics Technology, a provider of integrated satellite communication system applications, to develop a one-stop maritime satellite communication solution and strengthen Taiwan's communication resilience.

Taiwan Mobile explained that this collaboration focuses on the integration technology of multi-orbit satellite bandwidth in the Ku-band (12-18 GHz) and L-band (1-2 GHz) of satellite communications, with in-depth cooperation for mobile satellite communication equipment on ocean-going vessels, personal devices, and vehicles.

Taiwan Mobile stated that by integrating high, medium, and low-orbit satellites with ship-end terminals, shore-end platforms, and maintenance services with ASTRI Group and Far East Medical Electronics Technology, they will ensure communication backup, ship status and location transmission, and command-and-control collaboration capabilities for maritime missions in offshore areas, adverse weather conditions, or during ground network outages.

Furthermore, by combining the cybersecurity testing processes of the Institute of Information Industry's Cybersecurity Research Institute and an R&D team with IPC-A-610 Class 3 aerospace-military grade certification and satellite control technology, they are building a partner ecosystem to promote integrated maritime, land, and air AI mission applications for domestic and international unmanned surface vessels (USVs), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and satellite IoT.

Chu Hsiao-hsing, Chief Commercial Officer of Taiwan Mobile's Enterprise Business Group, said that Taiwan Mobile has been continuously investing in non-terrestrial networks (NTN) in recent years. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AST SpaceMobile to promote standard mobile phone direct-to-satellite services, further enhancing their "star-ground integrated" capabilities across land, sea, air, and all dimensions.

Chou Hsiang-yu, Chairman of ASTRI Group, pointed out that ASTRI Group has been deeply involved in the satellite communication industry for over 30 years, serving more than 3,000 international ocean-going vessels. They have accumulated extensive experience in fleet communication, ship terminal equipment, satellite antenna construction, and cross-border maintenance. They will provide multi-satellite maritime services including OneWeb, Iridium, and Starlink. By combining the capabilities of Taiwan Mobile and Far East Medical Electronics Technology, they will offer a one-stop service from equipment construction, satellite connectivity, platform integration, to subsequent maintenance.

Deng Chun-nan, Chairman of Far East Medical Electronics Technology, stated that Far East Medical Electronics Technology will act as a satellite communication application system provider, assisting in connecting ship-end terminal equipment, satellite communication links, data transmission processes, and shore-end mission management systems, thereby reducing the complexity of interfacing between different devices, networks, and platforms.
