TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNA) -- The Taiwan stock market opened higher today and experienced fluctuations. Major electronic stocks such as TSMC, MediaTek, and Nanya Technology, as well as financial stocks, surged. Electronic components, military industry, plastics, and shipping sectors retreated. The index briefly fell into negative territory, then turned positive in intraday trading, continuing its volatile trend. The Taiwan stock market reached a high of over 410 points, approaching 47,000 points.
As of 10:15 AM, the Taiex index rose 253.83 points to 46810.22, with a turnover of approximately NT$459.8 billion. The electronics index rose 0.55% intraday, while the financial index surged 1.72%. The OTC index, representing small and mid-cap stocks, fell 0.89%.
TSMC, the 'king of stocks,' reached a high of NT$2500 intraday, up NT$40, a gain of 1.63%. MediaTek rose 0.7%, Delta Electronics saw a slight increase, Hon Hai fell 0.6%, and ASE Technology Holding rose 1%. Yageo, a major passive component manufacturer, hovered around its flat price of NT$1005, while the memory sector, represented by Nanya Technology, surged 3.5%.
High-priced stocks exceeding NT$1000 saw mixed performance. Shuang Hong temporarily fell below NT$1000, while other high-priced stocks defended the '52 Golden Thousand' threshold.
Huang Wen-ching, General Manager of Taishin Investment Trust, told CNA in a phone interview that the Taiwan stock market's intraday trend pulled back. After high-level fluctuations, the rebound lacked strength, and the overall upward momentum weakened. The market was relatively passive, with sectors that had risen significantly consolidating, leaving ample room for individual stock performance.
Looking ahead at the Taiwan stock market, Huang Wen-ching stated that the market is focusing on TSMC's investor conference next week on July 16th, after which the industry outlook may become clearer. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150707
