(CNA) The Taiwan Venture Capital Association (TVCA) and the Korea Venture Capital Association (KVCA) signed a memorandum of understanding today, focusing on two main areas for future cooperation: promoting cross-border funds and exit mechanism collaboration, with the aim of fostering closer ties between the Taiwanese and Korean ecosystems.

The "2026 Taiwan Venture Capital and Private Equity Investment Annual Conference," jointly organized by the Taiwan Venture Capital Association (TVCA) and the Taiwan Private Equity Association (TPEA), kicked off today. In addition to an opening address by President Lai Ching-te and speeches by industry leaders, the Taiwanese and Korean venture capital associations also used this occasion to jointly sign a memorandum of understanding, with the signing ceremony witnessed by National Development Council Minister Paul I. Liu.

In his address, Minister Liu stated that Taiwan and South Korea have similar industrial structures, but this does not mean they only compete; there is also significant room for cooperation.

Minister Liu pointed out that both Taiwan and South Korea were ranked among the top 20 in the "2026 Global Startup Ecosystem Index" recently released by the renowned international innovation research institution StartupBlink. Both countries have shown outstanding performance in the fields of hardware and the Internet of Things, demonstrating their strong manufacturing capabilities, solid talent pools, and vibrant ecosystems. He expressed hope for more exchange opportunities in the future, whether in industrial innovation, cross-border investment, or startup connections.

KVCA Chairman Kim Hak-kyun stated that the growth of Taiwan's startup and venture capital ecosystem in recent years has been impressive. Taiwan, as a crucial base for the global semiconductor and high-tech hardware industries and a key hub in the global technology supply chain, has become one of East Asia's most dynamic growth engines. South Korea, with Deep Tech and AI at its core, is accelerating the upgrade of its entrepreneurial ecosystem and possesses a mature and competitive exit mechanism centered around KOSDAQ.

Chairman Kim Hak-kyun added that this memorandum of understanding is not merely a formality but an action plan to drive substantive change in both markets. Future cooperation between the two parties will focus on two main pillars. First, promoting the establishment of cross-border funds by sharing networks, reliable market information, and investment data to build a virtuous cooperation mechanism for bilateral investment.

Second, the two parties will deepen cooperation on exit mechanisms. Chairman Kim Hak-kyun noted that South Korea has been continuously developing its capital market centered around KOSDAQ for many years to support the growth of innovative companies, while Taiwan is also actively promoting diverse exit mechanisms such as IPOs and mergers and acquisitions. In the future, the two national associations will work together to assist outstanding companies in successfully exiting through IPOs, M&A, and other means, and further connect investors with capital markets.

TVCA and TPEA Chairman Chiu Te-cheng said that Taiwan and South Korea are both important forces in Asian technological innovation and possess world-class industrial advantages. In the face of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and global supply chain restructuring, international competition is no longer just between companies but between innovation ecosystems. Deepening cooperation between Taiwan and South Korea will help them jointly seize the next wave of innovation and development opportunities. (Editor: Chang Chun-mao) 1150707
