Taipei, July 7 (CNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced today that it is planning to launch the "International Youth NGO Ambassador" program in the second half of this year to expand youth participation in international affairs. The program will select outstanding young individuals aged 20 to 45 with professional expertise and foreign language skills to engage in exchanges abroad, aiming to deepen Taiwan's voice on major international issues and implement comprehensive diplomacy.
At a regular press conference this morning, Executive Director of the MOFA's NGO Affairs Committee, Alex Jiang, stated that to broaden youth involvement in international affairs and strengthen international advocacy capabilities, the ministry is planning to introduce the "International Youth NGO Ambassador" program in the latter half of this year. The initiative hopes to combine the professional capabilities of Taiwanese youth with international exchange resources, thereby implementing the "comprehensive diplomacy" policy, strengthening partnerships with like-minded countries, and further enhancing Taiwan's international visibility and substantive participation.
Jiang noted that in recent years, the international community has paid high attention to global issues such as democratic resilience, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and climate change. As youth are a crucial force in promoting international cooperation, this program will select outstanding young individuals with international perspectives and professional expertise based on specific issues. It will leverage Taiwan's strengths in technological innovation, democratic governance, and social resilience, sending them to participate in international forums, think tank exchanges, and civil society activities abroad to further boost the energy of Taiwanese youth in international advocacy.
Jiang explained that the MOFA has preliminarily identified important international conferences and think tank forums in Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region suitable for exchanges by Taiwanese youth in the second half of this year. The relevant topics include "Geopolitics and Democratic Resilience," "Frontier Technology and Innovative Governance," and "Sustainable Development and Social Participation." Outstanding young individuals are expected to be selected for overseas exchanges in the latter half of this year to deepen Taiwan's voice on major international issues.
Jiang mentioned that the selection criteria for this program will be officially announced soon. Applicants must be citizens of the Republic of China, aged between 20 and 45, and are not limited to students. They must possess expertise in relevant fields and foreign language proficiency. The MOFA welcomes outstanding talents from all sectors to participate enthusiastically and jointly promote Taiwan's role as a key trusted partner in the global democratic front and technology supply chain.
