(CNA reporter Chiu Tzu-yu, Taipei, July 7) The Taiwan Museum of Art, Culture and Society announced that the international team "Yu Shan Gong Fang" has been selected to curate the Taiwan Pavilion at the 20th Venice Architecture Biennale. They will be present at the Palazzo delle Prigioni in Venice, Italy, next May, continuing to showcase Taiwan's soft power.
According to a press release from the Taiwan Museum of Art, Culture and Society, the Ministry of Culture has transferred the responsibility of organizing the Taiwan Pavilion to the Taiwan Museum of Art, Culture and Society starting this year (previously managed by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts).
The press release stated that this year's selection process involved expert recommendations. A curatorial committee composed of experts in architectural design, architectural history research, and international exhibition experience recommended candidate teams. After discussion and consensus, 11 teams were nominated, and then 3 teams were selected for the final round through proposal invitations.
After the final review, "Yu Shan Gong Fang" was chosen. "Yu Shan Gong Fang" has long been dedicated to the fields of Taiwanese architecture and space. In recent years, they have participated in international exhibitions in Italy, Japan, and Thailand, and their work has received recognition with the Good Design Award in Japan.
The curatorial committee believes that the exhibition content proposed by the team not only responds to the main theme of the Biennale, "Do Architecture—For the Possibility of Coexistence Facing a Real Reality," but also demonstrates the unique thinking and construction methods developed by Taiwanese architectural culture in response to environmental, social, and technological conditions. They also expressed hope that this experience can be translated into an exhibition narrative that international audiences can understand and resonate with.
The committee also affirmed the team's cross-disciplinary integration and international cooperation capabilities. Their perspective not only echoes the development context of contemporary Taiwanese architectural culture but also forms a meaningful dialogue with the marine environment, climatic conditions, and historical background faced by Venice, showcasing the potential of architecture as a medium for cultural exchange.
The exhibition theme and content details will be officially announced to the public after the completion of the Biennale's review process. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 1150707
