(Central News Agency, reporter Li Huai-ting, Pingtung County, July 7) The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' "Drone Rural Logistics Service Plan" is entering its commercial operation verification phase this year. Pingtung County is focusing on cross-sea and campus smart delivery, and after completing safety regulation confirmation, flight implementation verification can commence.

The Pingtung County Government announced in a press release today that it is collaborating with the Institute for Information Industry, the National Center for High-Performance Computing, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, SkyEyes Satellite Technology, the National Cheng Kung University Research and Development Foundation, and Zhuo En Intelligent Technology, among other entities, to jointly build a smart aerial logistics demonstration site with Pingtung as the core.

This plan focuses on two landmark aerial corridors within Pingtung County. The first corridor is set at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, integrating the local logistics capabilities of convenience stores to introduce drone delivery technology. This aims to address the inconvenience of food delivery entering the campus and traffic congestion outside the campus, thereby reducing the risk of traffic accidents around the campus and creating a safe, convenient, and smart campus logistics new model.

The second corridor targets the route from Yanpu Fishing Port to Siaoliouciou. In collaboration with Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd., drones will be used in conjunction with existing sea and postal transport systems to enhance the rapid delivery of mail and daily necessities to the outlying islands, shortening the logistics time gap and improving the service quality of the island's living circle.

The Institute for Information Industry stated that the commercial verification plan passed the Civil Aeronautics Administration's "Remote Pilot Unmanned Aircraft System Logistics Operations Manual" review in May this year. After completing relevant operational procedures and safety regulation confirmation, drone logistics flight implementation verification will be initiated at the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology and Siaoliouciou sites. Concurrently, long-term field tests will be conducted for campus internal and external delivery, cross-sea supply, and rural logistics service scenarios to accumulate practical operational experience and verify flight safety and operational feasibility.

The Pingtung County Government mentioned that trial flights are gradually entering the testing phase. To showcase the results of the commercial verification, an achievement presentation event is scheduled to be held at the Pingtung Yanliu Sea Transport Center before the end of this year.
