(Central News Agency, reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, July 7) In response to the increasing frequency of short-duration heavy rainfall, the Changhua County Government is providing movable waterproof barriers to enhance community disaster prevention capabilities. Residents in flood-prone areas or those with flood control needs can apply to borrow these barriers from their local township offices.

The Changhua County Government's Water Resources Bureau stated in a press release today that in the past, dealing with typhoons or heavy rains involved using sandbags, which were cumbersome, time-consuming to stack, difficult to store, and prone to damage and consumption, placing a heavy burden on the elderly or vulnerable families. The county government has introduced the concept of technological flood control by purchasing waterproof barriers that can be repeatedly cleaned and used cyclically for a long time, significantly reducing the physical burden of stacking sandbags and speeding up assembly.

The Water Resources Bureau mentioned that the movable waterproof barriers feature an L-shaped curved plate design, with each piece weighing only about 6 kilograms, allowing for single-person assembly. In case of surface runoff drainage issues, these waterproof barriers can be quickly deployed to temporarily block water flow, reducing flood risk. They are suitable for use at the entrances and exits of basement parking lots in buildings, street-level shops, and doorways of low-lying residences.

The Water Resources Bureau added that to maximize the efficiency of flood season resource utilization, the public or community management committees can assess their surrounding environment. If there is a need for flood control, they can apply to their local township offices to borrow the waterproof barriers. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150707
