(CNA) With Typhoon Bavi approaching, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih stated today regarding the MRT San Ying Line that in response to the challenge of its first typhoon since opening, he has requested that all typhoon preparedness measures be thoroughly implemented and that the city be fully prepared. He also added that if operations need to be suspended, the public will be informed in advance.

Hou Yu-ih presided over the New Taipei City Parking Lot Construction and Management Achievement Exhibition and Golden Parking Award Ceremony today, where 201 public parking lots received excellent ratings and 22 received outstanding ratings. In a media interview, he expressed his hope that the awarding of the Golden Parking Award would lead to even better service quality.

When asked by the media about Typhoon Bavi's approach and how to prepare for the first typhoon test for the MRT San Ying Line since its opening, Hou Yu-ih said that the San Ying Line is a crucial route that has just begun operations, so "we are fully prepared." Yesterday, during the typhoon preparedness meeting, he instructed the MRT Engineering Bureau to conduct thorough and repeated inspections, especially concerning the generators.

Hou Yu-ih stated that MRT station structures should be equipped with sandbags and water pumps, and all relevant typhoon preparedness measures must be fully implemented. In the event of strong winds and heavy rain, the city government will closely monitor the situation. If trial operations need to be suspended, citizens will be informed in advance.

Hou Yu-ih mentioned that due to the strong winds and heavy rain associated with this typhoon, many signs, electrical wires, and construction fences are prone to collapse. The city government will be fully prepared and also reminds citizens to make their own typhoon preparations, and to avoid going to the coast to watch waves or play in the water.

When asked by the media about the status of the recall of problematic cooking oil from Chung Hsing, Hou Yu-ih stated that he has always demanded that all oil inspections be treated with the highest standards. He has requested the joint inspection team to thoroughly investigate the sources of all oil products, and that any products that need to be recalled must be recalled without compromise.
