Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Lin Hsiu-ming, chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), stated today that the innovative Nasdaq has surpassed the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in market capitalization, highlighting significant changes in the global capital market. The TWSE aims to make Taiwan the "Nasdaq of Asia" by vigorously promoting its Innovation Board.

Lin Hsiu-ming attended the Taiwan Venture Capital and Private Equity Association Annual Meeting today, participating in a panel discussion titled "Dialogue on the New Capital Market Landscape and Promoting the Deep Development of Taiwan's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem" with Chairman Jian Li-chung of the GreTai Securities Market and Chairman Chien Chih-cheng of Chunghwa Telecom.

Lin Hsiu-ming noted that the concept of investment and the startup environment in the United States differ fundamentally from those in traditional or existing listed and OTC markets in Taiwan. Emerging tech companies like Tesla and NVIDIA are now leading the global capital market, and the recent IPO of SpaceX demonstrates the value of capital markets that prioritize high growth.

Lin Hsiu-ming emphasized that the mainstream method for evaluating corporate value in the global capital market today is significantly different from traditional exchange valuation methods, representing a crucial shift.

Citing data, Lin Hsiu-ming pointed out that from 2015 to 2025, the NYSE's market cap grew by 76.94%. During the same period, the innovative Nasdaq experienced exponential growth of 415.55%, and its market cap has now surpassed the NYSE, making it the world's largest exchange by market capitalization. This illustrates that prioritizing growth and future innovation can create immense value, representing a major ongoing transformation in the capital market.

He further explained that the TWSE's vigorous promotion of the Innovation Board is intended to lead this trend and establish Taiwan as the "Nasdaq of Asia." The goal is not only to attract Taiwanese startups to list on the Innovation Board but also to encourage startups from Asia and other regions to list in Taiwan.

Lin Hsiu-ming analyzed that many countries, including Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, manage their innovation or growth boards as secondary markets. However, the TWSE, differentiating itself from general capital markets, elevates the Innovation Board to the level of a main board, aligning with the Nasdaq model. The Taiwan Innovation Board announced a series of relaxations in October last year, benchmarking its listing standards against those of the Nasdaq.

Lin Hsiu-ming pointed out that since the new regulations were announced in October last year, the Innovation Index has risen by 140% from November to the present. In comparison, the main board and OTC indices have risen by 59.25% and 54.6% respectively, demonstrating strong upward momentum. During the same period, the average daily trading value of the Innovation Index increased by 289% compared to 2025. (Editor: Chang Liang-chih) 1150707
