(CNA reporter Pan Tzu-yu, Taipei, July 7) The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) announced today that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June increased by 2.6% year-on-year, marking the second consecutive month above the 2% inflation alert line and reaching the highest level in 17 months. The core CPI, excluding fruits, vegetables, and energy, rose by 2.45% year-on-year.

The DGBAS pointed out that although domestic gasoline and diesel prices were lowered in late June following international market trends, the increase in fuel costs remained significant, and fuel surcharges also pushed up international air ticket prices. Additionally, the continued rise in dining-out expenses, rent, and household management costs, coupled with reduced supply and price increases for vegetables due to heavy rainfall, contributed to the overall price increase.

The CPI for essential daily necessities also saw an expanded increase in June, rising to 2.17%, the largest increase in nearly four months. (Editor: Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150707
