(Central News Agency reporter You Kai-xiang, Taipei, July 7) Jiang Zhen-wei, Executive Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' NGO International Affairs Department, stated today that he recently visited Japan and discussed cooperation with the Japan Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Industry Association. Both sides deeply believe that the regulations and standards for drones in First Island Chain countries such as Taiwan, Japan, and the Philippines should be more consistent. If Japan has needs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is optimistic and will coordinate with relevant authorities for discussion.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a regular press conference this morning. Media inquired whether there is further room for cooperation in the drone industry between Taiwan and Japan, as drone diplomacy is a key policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Jiang Zhen-wei, Executive Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' NGO International Affairs Department, pointed out that the Japan Drone exhibition was held in Tokyo in early June, and Taiwan had a "Taiwan Excellence Drone Overseas Business Alliance" pavilion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also dispatched a section chief from the drone diplomacy team to attend. During the exhibition, Japan recognized Taiwan's drone capabilities, and the drone diplomacy team also discussed relevant matters of Taiwan's drone diplomacy with executives from the Japan Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Industry Association (JUIDA).
Jiang Zhen-wei stated that both sides deeply believe that whether it is Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines in the First Island Chain, or even the Second Island Chain, all drone regulations, standards, and certifications should be more consistent. Therefore, this requires discussions among various countries, and Taiwan is optimistic. If the Japanese government has related issues that need discussion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can coordinate with the relevant authorities to proceed, and hopes for consistent drone regulations among First Island Chain countries.
In addition, the media also inquired about details such as the timeline for the establishment of Taiwan's office in Phoenix, USA. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei explained that because Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and an important rapidly developing city in the southwestern United States, considering its strategic importance in attracting Taiwanese enterprises and its development potential, the government decided to establish an additional office in Phoenix.
Hsiao Kuang-wei explained that the goal is to continuously strengthen contact and interaction with local legal and government entities, and to provide more convenient services for local Taiwanese businesses and expatriates. However, all preparatory work is still in progress, and further information will be announced in due course. (Editor: Yang Kai-xiang) 1150707
