(CNA, Taipei, July 7) Recent issues with cooking oil have drawn public attention. Formosa Fats and Oils (福壽) issued a statement today asserting that all pet food it produces does not use soybean salad oil in its formulation. General pet food uses chicken fat or fish oil, while vegetarian formulas use palm oil.
Formosa Fats and Oils is not only a food and feed producer but also manufactures pet food. The company stated that to ensure consumer peace of mind, it has submitted the oil raw materials used in its pet food production to a third-party impartial organization for testing of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP). Due to a recent surge in demand for benzo(a)pyrene testing in Taiwan, the issuance of test reports is taking longer. Once the test results are received, an explanation will be provided promptly for public understanding.
Recently, Taiwan has been rocked by a cooking oil scandal, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to disclose the flow of affected products. In addition to food businesses, pet food manufacturers have also come under scrutiny. Formosa Fats and Oils issued a statement today in response, reiterating that its pet food formulations do not use soybean salad oil. (Editor: Lin Shu-yuan) 1150707
