(Washington, July 8, CNA, Reuters) The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that US forces have launched a series of strong strikes against Iran in response to Tehran's recent attacks on three merchant ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

Reuters reported that the US military statement stated that this action "has imposed a heavy price on Iran for its targeting and attacks on merchant shipping."

The statement also said, "Iran's demonstrated aggressive behavior is unjustified, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement."

It is currently unclear which targets the US struck, but Iranian media reported that six missiles hit the Taheroui pier area in Sirik, southern Iran.

This is the first known US military strike against Tehran since a series of airstrikes and exchanges of fire between the US and Iran occurred for several consecutive days at the end of June. (Compiled by Hung Chi-yuan) 1150708
