The Ren-ai Branch of the Nantou County Government Police Bureau stated that a large truck crashed into a slope at the 7.3-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 14J early this morning. The driver, a 63-year-old man surnamed Zheng, was driving the truck from Songgang, Ren-ai Township, towards Wushe. While passing this section of the road, he crashed into the slope. The driver was injured and sent to the Puli Branch of Taichung Veterans General Hospital for treatment. His blood alcohol content was 0, and the other two passengers in the vehicle were not injured.

Until the afternoon, towing operations were still underway. Police preliminary investigation revealed that Zheng was transporting watermelons from Yilan County to a food processing plant in Dali District, Taichung City.
