(CNA) Taipei, July 7 – After becoming a free agent, mixed-race Taiwanese-American player Fairchild, though contacted by several CPBL teams, has officially signed with the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball today, continuing his MLB career, his agency confirmed. Contract details have not yet been released.
Fairchild (Stuart Fairchild), a 30-year-old outfielder nicknamed "Fairchild," was designated for assignment (DFA) by the Cleveland Guardians on June 27th, Taiwan time. When no other team claimed him, the Guardians optioned him to Triple-A. Due to his more than three years of MLB service time, Fairchild chose to become a free agent.
After becoming a free agent, CPBL teams including the Wei Chuan Dragons and Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions expressed interest in contacting him. However, Fairchild updated his personal Instagram today to indicate he is playing for the Mariners.
His agency also confirmed that Fairchild signed with the Mariners today. Fairchild was born and raised in Seattle and previously played for the Mariners in 2022.
So far this season, Fairchild has appeared in 14 MLB games, recording 3 hits in 19 at-bats, contributing 1 RBI, with a batting average of .158. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 0707115
