(Central News Agency, France, Ille-sur-Têt, July 6, Comprehensive Foreign News) A wildfire in southern France has gotten out of control, forcing over 10,000 residents from more than 20 French towns and villages near the Spanish border to evacuate their homes. Officials stated today that strong winds are expected to further spread the flames.

Reuters reported that the European Union announced today it will dispatch four firefighting aircraft from Cyprus and Sweden to France, and deploy over 100 firefighters to assist in disaster relief in Trevillach, not far from the southern French city of Perpignan.

Local prefect Pierre Regnault de la Mothe stated on social media platform X that the fire has injured 16 people, including 4 firefighters, and has burned approximately 4,600 hectares of land in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.

The early summer heatwave in France and across Western Europe in May and June has caused large areas of land to dry out, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires this year.

The location of the Trevillach wildfire is near the route of the third stage of the Tour de France. According to Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme, the stage has been closed today to facilitate access for firefighters to the area, and public viewing is not permitted.
