(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 7) The Chung-Lien oil case, involving carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene exceeding standards, has affected at least 232 products. The Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released the first batch of detailed lists this evening, including many convenience store foods processed by Lian Hwa Foods for brands like Lin Tsung-ming and Fu-hang, as well as sauces and meat floss from Wei Chuan and Kuang Ta Hsiang.
Chung-Lien's "Soybean Salad Oil" exceeded the carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene standard, with 1300 metric tons flowing to companies such as Tai Shan, Fu Shou, and Fu Mao, affecting a total of 18 products across 30 batches. The number of affected businesses is 360. The Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) announced today that it has identified 331 businesses and is tracking 29 others.
The TFDA has set up a special section on its official website for the Chung-Lien Oil case to update the latest handling situation daily. This evening, the first batch of 232 product details was released, including product names, expiration dates or shelf lives, and other identifying information. A total of 43.278 metric tons have been recalled.
According to the list released by the TFDA, many well-known products are on the list. Lian Hwa Foods Industrial Co., Ltd. alone processed about 80 convenience store food items, such as Lin Tsung-ming Chicken Rice Onigiri, Fu-hang Soy Milk Classic Onigiri, Fu Jin Shu Spicy Shrimp Egg Gravy Rice, Shih An Farm Soft-boiled Egg Onigiri, and Wo Bian Dang Deluxe Secret Double Combination.
Additionally, major food manufacturers such as Wei Chuan Foods Co., Ltd., Kuang Ta Hsiang Food Co., Ltd., and Kuang Ta Food Co., Ltd. are also involved. Numerous products that are part of people's daily lives have been affected, spanning across Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Yilan counties and cities, with affected businesses from north to south.
Minister of Health and Welfare Hsueh-liang Shih announced earlier at a press conference regarding the Chung-Lien case that the original regulation required products with "20% or more" content to be recalled. For the 175 products with less than 20% content, only voluntary disclosure of product information was required. To ensure public peace of mind, all these products will be recalled immediately and must be completed by midnight tomorrow. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150707
