Key News on U.S.-Iran War
(CNA Tehran, July 7, Foreign News) After U.S. officials announced "powerful" strikes against Iran, Iranian state media reported a series of explosions in the Strait of Hormuz region today. The Iranian Foreign Ministry subsequently warned of retaliatory action.
According to Iran's Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), as cited by Agence France-Presse, six explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, seven explosions were reported in Sirik, and multiple explosions were also heard in the major port city of Bandar Abbas.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry warned of retaliation, stating that the U.S. has repeatedly violated a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the Middle East war, and pointed out that in addition to the ongoing attacks on Lebanon, other threats also exist.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry released on the instant messaging platform Telegram by IRIB stated: "Iran sternly warns the U.S. of the consequences of violating the treaty and will take decisive measures to defend its interests and national security."
U.S. and Iran are currently negotiating an end to the Middle East war, and unexpectedly, three oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. today canceled temporary exemptions for Iranian oil sanctions.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), an "unidentified flying object" struck an oil tanker last night, causing a fire, followed by attacks on two more vessels, with at least one being hit by a drone.
All three attacked vessels were near the coast of Oman. Oman had previously proposed establishing a temporary transit route along its coastline, but Iran objected. Iran, on the other hand, advocated for charging passage fees for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. (Compiled by Tsai Chia-min) 1150708
