(Central News Agency, Taichung, July 8) Regarding the case of cancer-causing agents exceeding standards in Zhonglian oil, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office announced today that it has visited Zhonglian and other relevant companies to retrieve documents and has interviewed Zhonglian Company's General Manager Yu and other defendants. The investigation is ongoing to trace the source and flow of the products to clarify the responsibilities of all involved.

The Taichung District Prosecutors Office issued a press release today stating that on July 2, the office initiated the "Platform for Contacting and Investigating Crimes Affecting People's Livelihood," appointing the chief prosecutor of the special task force for livelihood crimes to hold a meeting with the Taichung City Department of Food and Drug Safety. An investigation was launched on July 3, and on the same day, the investigation bureau's Taichung City Investigation Office was directed to Zhonglian Company to obtain relevant data.

Prosecutors stated that after analyzing the relevant data, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office convened a special project meeting on "Cancer-Causing Agents in Oil Exceeding Standards" with the Taichung City Department of Food and Drug Safety, the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Taichung City Investigation Office. Documents such as oil import/export details and oil inspection reports were retrieved from Zhonglian, Fushou, Fuma, Taishan, and Nanchiao, among other relevant companies.

Furthermore, prosecutors have interviewed the defendant, Zhonglian Company's General Manager Yu, and the deputy section chief of the Quality Control Section, Chen, as well as a witness, Nanchiao Company's plant manager Cai. The investigation aims to determine whether the defendants violated the Food Safety and Sanitation Act.

Prosecutors emphasized that food safety is crucial for the health of the nation and the rights of consumers. Any business that disregards food safety laws and public health to reduce costs, evade responsibility, or seek illegal profits will not be tolerated or treated lightly by the prosecutors. The investigation is continuing to trace the source and flow of the oil, thoroughly clarifying the origin, destination, inspection results, and the responsibilities of all involved parties.
