Taipei, July 8 (CNA) - Biotechnology company Bora Pharmaceuticals saw its June revenue reach NT$2.297 billion, a year-on-year increase of 39.22%, setting a new monthly record, driven by growth in its global sales business and CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) services. PharmaEssentia's revenue for June was NT$2.33 billion, a year-on-year increase of 94.9%, marking its second-highest monthly revenue, supported by steady global sales of its leukemia drug Ropeg.
Bora's revenue for the first half of this year was NT$9.892 billion, a decrease of 1.14% year-on-year. Bora anticipates returning to positive growth in the second half of the year.
Bora stated in a press release today that the momentum in June's revenue was primarily driven by the resurgence in growth of its global sales business, Upsher-Smith (USL), coupled with stable CDMO performance, with both engines firing simultaneously.
In terms of global sales, Bora indicated that after reshaping its product portfolio in the first half of the year, USL has maintained its market share for its flagship generic drug DLS, with demand returning to normal. The contribution from its specialty drug product lines has seen steady growth, and with several new products scheduled for market launch in 2026, the overall sales business is set to resume growth.
Bora's CDMO business benefited from stable shipments from its North American and Taiwanese manufacturing sites, maintaining a healthy operational level.
Looking ahead to July, Bora has completed the handover of its biologics CDMO facility in Rockville, Maryland, USA, and has begun consolidation into its financial statements. This facility, acquired by Bora from the US-listed company MacroGenics for a total consideration of US$122.5 million, is equipped with five 2,000-liter and two 500-liter single-use bioreactors and already has orders for in-production monoclonal antibodies, which will immediately inject new momentum into its CDMO business.
Bora pointed out that with the addition of the Rockville facility to the group's CDMO network, Bora's revenue composition this year will become more diversified, covering a complete spectrum of dosage forms including small molecule oral formulations, sterile injectables, ophthalmic preparations, and large molecule biologics, effectively reducing reliance on flagship products. Furthermore, with the expansion of capacity at Taifun's San Diego plant gradually coming online and the expansion project at the Maryland sterile injectable plant progressing as planned, the group's dual platform strategy for large and small molecules is becoming increasingly complete.
PharmaEssentia's revenue for the first half of this year was NT$11.98 billion, a year-on-year increase of 74.6%, setting a new record for the same period. Its core product, the leukemia drug Ropeg, has shown steady sales growth in major global markets.
PharmaEssentia stated that in terms of new indications, it has applied for marketing authorization for Ropeg in the treatment of polycythemia vera (ET) in multiple countries worldwide. The target date for completion of the review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is August 30th of this year, and the review processes in Japan, China, and South Korea are continuing to advance.
