(Central News Agency, Taipei, July 8) The Taipei City Department of Health today updated its inspection progress regarding the carcinogen benzopyrene exceeding the standard in NanChiao soybean salad oil, announcing a list of 62 stores that used 7 types of oils reconstituted by NanChiao with the problematic oil, including Popeyes Fried Chicken, PX Mart, and others.
According to the "Downstream Businesses Using NanChiao Oil Company's Products Made with Affected Soybean Oil (62 Entries in Taipei City)" released by the Taipei City Department of Health, affected businesses include Popeyes Fried Chicken, Partyworld, Holiday, PX Mart, Grand Hyatt Pork Chop, Ambassador Hotel, and Regent Taipei, and even the factory at the Taipei City Government's Department of Labor's Vocational Training Center is on the list.
Minister of Health and Welfare Hsueh Jui-liang announced on July 7 that to ensure public peace of mind, 175 products originally with a content of 20% or less, which were only voluntarily disclosed by businesses, will be comprehensively removed from shelves starting immediately, with completion by midnight on July 8.
The Taipei City Department of Health issued information today stating that since the investigation began on July 2, in addition to imposing a fine of NT$3 million on NanChiao Oil Company yesterday for failing to report when benzopyrene exceeded the standard as required by the Food Safety Act, they have also identified data on 7 types of oils reconstituted by NanChiao with the problematic oil that were sold to stores in Taipei City, totaling 62 entries.
These 7 types of oils include NanChiao NEBOS Functional Fat Spread, Upgraded Clean Baking Oil (No Additives) Stirring Oil, Ace Liquid Frying Oil, Vigor Anhydrous Baking Butter, Vegetable Shortening Oil, Vigor Special Danish Oil, and Special Baking Oil.
The Department of Health stated that if a store name appears repeatedly on the list, it is because they sold products from different shipping order numbers, and they are listed according to the shipping order number, hence appearing more than once. Detailed information can be found on the Department of Health's official website under the file "NanChiao Preventive Removal List (7 Products) - Taipei City".
The Department of Health reminds consumers that if they see one of these 7 products in these stores recently, they can inquire with the business before purchasing to confirm if it is a product from a shipping order number on the removal list, to protect their rights. The types of stores on the list span hotels, fried chicken shops, KTVs, bento shops, and more. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150708
