(Central News Agency Reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, July 8) Regarding the case of excessive carcinogens in Zhonglian soybean salad oil, the Taipei City Department of Health updated its inspection progress this evening, stating that 7 types of oil products processed by Nanqiao using the problematic batch of oil, with a total of 62 sales invoices, had their products sold to retail stores. It is currently confirmed that all related processed foods have been removed from shelves and returned.

Zhonglian's "Soybean Salad Oil" exceeded the carcinogen benzopyrene limit, with a total of 1300 metric tons flowing to Taishan, Fwusow, and Fwumao, affecting a total of 18 products across 30 batches. The affected businesses are 360, and the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced yesterday that 331 businesses have been identified and 29 are still being tracked.

Minister of Health and Welfare Shih Chung-liang announced on the 7th that to reassure the public, 175 products with an original content of 20% or less, which were only subject to voluntary disclosure of product information by businesses, will be fully removed from shelves starting immediately, to be completed by midnight on the 8th.

The Taipei City Department of Health stated that it has identified 7 products processed by Nanqiao using the problematic oil, including Nanqiao NEBOS Functional Fat Spread, Baking Clean Upgrade Oil No Added Stirring Oil, Ace Liquid Frying Oil, Vigor Anhydrous Baking Butter, Vegetable Shortening Oil, Vigor Special Danish Oil, and Special Baking Oil. A total of 62 sales invoices for these products were sold to 57 stores in Taipei City, and it is currently confirmed that all related processed foods have been removed from shelves and returned.

The stores previously announced by the Department of Health include Papa Don's Fried Chicken, Partyworld, Holiday, PX Mart, Junyi Braised Pork, Ambassador Hotel, Grand Formosa Regent Taipei, and the vocational training center factory of the Taipei City Department of Labor.

The Department of Health stated that since the investigation began on the 2nd, it has inspected 19 downstream businesses in Taipei City that received shipments from Fwumao and Fwusow. Among them, Fuyuan Food had shipped products to Hua Tai Hotel, Caesar Hotel, Hilton Taipei Sinban, Mai Nian Lang (Beef Noodle Restaurant), and Aloft Taipei Zhongshan. Consumers are reminded to inquire with businesses if they have used problematic oil and if they have changed their products for self-protection.

In addition, as of the 8th, the Taipei City Department of Commerce has visited a cumulative total of 118 catering businesses, an increase of 12 from the 106 visited on the 7th. On-site checks of the oils used by these businesses found no use of the problematic batch products.

The Department of Education updated that as of the 8th, one new group meal provider for school lunches has been affected, which is Tongxian Food Co., Ltd. This company was added to the list of affected New Taipei City businesses after cross-referencing with the list of 360 downstream businesses nationwide announced by the central government. The cumulative number of affected group meal providers is now 7.

The Department of Education stated that 7 new schools have been affected, including Huhu Elementary School, Shezi Elementary School, Fu'an Elementary School, Pingdeng Elementary School, Beitou Elementary School, Huashan High School, and the junior high school section of the National Taiwan Normal University Affiliated High School.
