TAIPEI (CNA) - A passenger posted on social media that an unknown smoke suddenly appeared in a Taiwan Railways (TRA) local train carriage today. TRA stated that the incident was caused by a passenger's handheld fan suddenly catching fire. Related personnel and evidence are being investigated with the assistance of the police, reported by Xinwuri Station.

Regarding the unknown smoke that appeared in the local train today, TRA explained through a message that on train 3178 (Chaozhou to Houli), while traveling between Chenggong and Xinwuri, a handheld fan belonging to a passenger in the 6th carriage suddenly caught fire. The fire was extinguished by security personnel on board using an extinguisher from the train. After confirming that there was no safety hazard, the train continued north to Taichung Station for cleaning and tidying.
